This lesson explains how to send a marketing email to a segment of your organisation's database.
Key points:
- Select Record in Patron contact history as an outgoing email from the marketing module each time you are preparing a segment for send. This will record the note of outgoing email on that date in the communications tab of the Patron Window.
- Tip: If you’re sending to your organisation’s newsletter group it may be an idea to create a new group with the date/basic details of send and click Add Patrons to Group so you get a new group which is a snapshot of the newsletter group at that particular moment in time (before new patrons sign-up). This way, if you need to send a follow up email to this newsletter group you can opt to send it to the newsletter group as previously sent to rather than the group as well as a whole lot of new patrons who have just signed up.
- When you’re building a query in the marketing module reporting window and the numbers are not as expected… as long as you don’t require the privacy boxes to be checked (for marketing opt-in purposes) don’t have them checked. You may find that having multiple privacy channels checked produces very few results, as you are requiring the patrons in the query to be opted into multiple specific channels.
- MailChimp and PatronPost are email marketing platforms that integrate with PatronBase. Click either the MailChimp or PatronPost button to send the segment/group you have created to the respective email platform.
- Duplication of letter communications used to be done by carbon paper among other things. Today, that duplication is performed by services like MailChimp or PatronPost or any other email marketing platform which also integrates with PatronBase. These platforms also allow us to view data about the receipt of our send such as who opened the email and who clicked on which links.
- Once a group is sending to PatronPost or MailChimp do not interrupt it. The send may take several minutes (or longer) depending on the size of the segment/group sent.
